We Offerred Who???

Apparently, last summer we offerred Kemp, Loney, and Billlingsley for Miguel Carbrera...straight up. And the Marlins turned it down. This according to mlb.com (http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20071107&content_id=2295572&vkey=hotstove2007&fext=.jsp)

I also heard that they wouldn't deal unless Russell Martin was included. Yes, gold-glovin' and silver-sluggin' Russell Martin. Why didn't they just ask for Teddy Ballgame and Jesus. I know Miggy is a star player...but they can't afford him. Also, the above-referenced trade would've left them w/ a starting lineup including Hanley Ramirez, Dan Uggla, James Loney, and Matt Kemp among others. That would be the nucleus of a sick young squad.

The Dodgers surely won't make that same offer this year. The following young players should be untouchable: Loney, Kemp, Billingsley, Martin...everyone else is expendable. However, it's becoming increasingly apparent that the front office doesn't feel the same about Kemp.

My proposal to FLA would include Laroche/Kershaw/Ethier/Meloan. FLA gets 4 good young players (some with huge upsides Laroche/Kershaw and one that's MLB proven Ethier). Dodgers get a superstar. In addition, we would need to extend Miggy immediately. I think keeping his last 2 arbitration years at $12/per and tacking on 5 more at $20/per. That's a total value of $124/7. That's $13MM cheaper than Soriano for a younger and superior player.

However, I still advocate acquiring Arod merely b/c this makes a Kemp trade less likely.

Long live Matt Kemp

Your logic is flawed. Getting Matt Kemp is the same as getting Teddy Ballgame and Jesus...COMBINED!

I would also like to make sure we keep Delwyn Young. I think his upside as a hitter is huge and I don't think it is that hard to teach somebody a position if the player is willing to work at it. Everybody else is expendable, especially to pick up a guy like Cabrera.
