I Do Believe In Santa Claus

PLEASE let this dream come true! Kenny "Colt .45" Williams and Ozzie "The Gardener" Guillen seem enamored with Juan Pierre. If we chip in some cash he will come way cheaper than Mr. Busted Grill so my fingers are crossed that this will happen. If Ole' Kris Kringle drops Fivel down the ChiSox chimney (hopefully with a toasty fire roaring inside) I will never doubt the potential for holiday magic ever again. The Rangers also apparently have at least a little interest in the Rodent so I'm thinking if Ned works for it we can dump that waste of chromosomes pronto.

MLBTR is also talking about Ethier being expendable (since we have 3.5 outfielders) but I think this is insane for a minor deal (I am not a HUGE Ethier fan but with his low price tag why wouldn't you keep him unless he was part of a package for an elite free agent?). Apparently the D-Rays (for Al Reyes, Dan Wheeler, or young starter according to St. Pete Times) and Rangers (for Joaquin Benoit according to MLB.com) might be interested.

I'm starting to freak out b/c I commented on MLBTR about this and talked about Christmas coming early. To think my mind works this similarly to Purple Stuff disturbs me a bit.

However, I fucking told you bastards that the ChiSox were the one team stupid enough to take Juan Pierre. I was clamoring for a Pierre for Garland deal throughout November. Clearly, they might have done the deal being that they took Orlando Cabrera even though they had just extended Juan Uribe.

What about Pierre for Contreras? Both make too much money. Both aren't that good. In a fucking bizarre world this might actually make sense for both teams. WEIRD!!!

Why aren't we high on Ethier anymore???

I like Ethier a lot but I don't see him as a sure fire all-star like Kemp, Loney, or Billingsley. I definitely don't want him shipped out in any of the deals mentioned but I wouldn't mind including him in a deal for a top shelf player (I just am not sold that he will ever get above 15 or so bombs a year consistently but if he does he will be really good).

In short I like Ethier, but I don't love Ethier. And like the rest of us, I am gay for Matt Kemp.

I think that's a reasonable stance on Ethier. However, we were all a little gay for Ethier in 2006. Remember the numbers he put up...

Avg/OBP/OPS
308/365/842

He only hit 11 HRs, but he still managed to OPS .842, which is extremely reasonable. Plus, with Jones and Kemp in the OF...he would be considered our "weakest" outfielder. I'll be pretty fucking stoked if our worst hitting OF is around .300/.350/.850.

Also, his defense isn't great but it's definitely respectable.

However, I would trade him straight up for Josh Hamilton who is inexplicably available. I think CIN wants pitching for him though.

I would also trade him straight up for Griffey. Although this would be a questionable move, I cannot deny my gayness for Griffey. Also, my 2 favorite players all-time would be in the same outfield (Griffey & Kemp).
