At Least It Didn't Fall Off

Well it looks like the tenting and fumigation may have been effective because Coletti suggests in this article that Jason Schmidt may just be ready to go and healthy to start the season. Apparently Schmidty has thrown off a mound and is continuing to chuck the pelota in an attempt to build arm strength prior to spring training. Here's hoping he can make a return to respectability because if this guy can be even half of what he was before the injury (an All Star caliber hurler) then the Dodgers rotation looks ridiculous. A decent Schmidt pitching in the 5th hole would make me quickly forget the days of Big Bird, Tomko, and Kuo.

In other news, Ned says in the article that Laroche and Nomar will go into spring training in open competition for the 3rd base spot. He also compares Andy's progression right now to that of Kemp/Loney last year and Martin/Ethier the year before. Sounds promising, especially for the Nomar-haters among us (yes I mean you Br!an).

Looks like the rotation will shape up like this...

1. Penny
2. Lowe
3. Billingsley
4. Kuroda
5. Schmidt

If everyone performs near what is expected and remains (somewhat) healthy then this rotation looks really good. Also, this could be the year that Billingsley really takes off and becomes an elite NL starter.

My dream scenario would be if Schmidt could come back and be close to the dominant pitcher he was pre-injury. Not counting on it but if it happened this would be as good a rotation as any in the bigs.

It is almost as good as my other dream scenario which involves Katherine McPhee and a 2 gallon drum of cocoa-butter. That's right, I have McPheever and I'm not ashamed to admit it!
