Anyone curious as to why we haven't made a move to pick up any proven starting pitchers? Let's break it down...
1. We lost Brad Penny and Derek Lowe. These were out #1 and #2 starters going into last year
2. Approximately $60MM has come off payroll from last year
3. We have NOT upgraded the offense
4. Beimel and Saito are gone (making the starting rotation even more important)
5. Our starting rotation was the ONLY reason we made the playoffs
6. The following names are cheap/unsigned free agents likely looking for 1-year deals:
a. Ben Sheets
b. Andy Pettitte
Recommendation: Sign Sheets & Pettitte ($8MM+ incentives each)
Also: Sign Manny 2/$45MM, Orlando Hudson 2/$15
Prediction: Only sign Manny
Result: Sadly, with the current roster, we finish 10.5 games behind AZ

Just saw that Lowe signed with the Brave at 4/$60 mil. Wow! Didn't think he was gonna get anywhere near that kind of dough. On the Dodger front, this is bad news. The last thing we need is other owners trying to win.
On a positive note, we've apparently agreed to terms on a one year deal with 35 year old Guillermo Mota. Since leaving the Dodgers in 2004, he's served a 50 game suspension for using a banned substance and has failed to post an ERA under 4.00. Clearly the bullpen is now solidified.
FUCK!
In more "Let's go after rejects who don't cost any money and hope they turn out to be moderately competent" news, we apparently among a handful of teams that are interested in Kris Benson. All I know off the top of my head is that he hasn't pitched in a couple years and his wife is a dirty whore (who is really not all that hot if you take away the "you could bend her over the sink in an Arby's bathroom to get one out of your system and then never have to see her again" appeal).
