Overreacting

Well it looks like the MLB has officially freaked out over an isolated incident and is making base coaches all wear batting helmets next year.

I'm sorry but this is a ridiculous response. One freak occurrence doesn't mean we should all be subjected to watching base coaches who look like little leaguers. If you fail to realize how goofy this will look, just think back to John Olerud's playing days. This guy was a pretty solid player, but he looked like he just got off the short bus every time he played the field with a helmet on.

And how are base coaches in any more danger than pitchers, or third/first basemen, or fans in the front row? Should everyone in the box seats have to wear a helmet too? This would all be solved if we just listened to the advice a wise old man gave me on my first day of t-ball practice: "No matter what, Keep your eye on the ball dummy!"
