It seems like the Dodgers are publicly distancing themselves from the big trade possibilities out there right now (i.e. Miguel Cabrera and Johan Santana). As good as these guys are, I'm glad to hear this, because the asking price was WAY too high. Especially when considering we'd be giving up, regardless of who was involved, 15-20 years of good players under team control on the cheap.
Super Mario actually said "We have two outfielders, a first baseman and a catcher. They have really come into their own. They are still reasonably young, but they have almost two years of big league experience and two pennant races." He forgot to mention that these guys are SICK...but he's on the right track at least.
However, our "interest" in Tony Clark is a bit confusing. A left-handed 1st baseman? Pretty sure we got one of those. Pretty sure Loney can play 162 games at 1B. C'mon it's 1B...not a demanding position. I like Clark, but I don't see our use for him.
Also, I'm Jonesing for an Andruw Jones signing. What do guys think would be a fair deal? I would be happy with a 4/$70MM type deal. However, I don't think it will be enough.

It looks like the Marlins are finally starting to see that their asking price for Miggy was completely insane, at least when it came to the Dodgers young players. It is now looking like even the deal with Anaheim (who wasn’t really giving up anything of real substance) won’t get done because the Angels don’t want to part with a higher number of their shitty prospects like Howie Kendrick and donkey pitchers like Ervin Santana. Like I’ve said before, Florida has no leverage here since they are the ones dumping a guy they are too cheap to pay so I never understood why their asking price was so high (unless they were just hoping for a bidding war that thankfully Coletti was at least smart enough not to get involved in).
I wouldn’t mind doing something similar to the Hunter deal for Jones (although I think Anaheim overpaid, Jones will probably demand close to the same amount). 4-5 years at $17-20 million isn’t really all that bad considering what we were paying Drew (and what he gets now) or the fact that Pierre makes half that and is completely useless. Not to mention Jones is a much better player than Hunter. His D is better (although Hunter is great), he has more power, and also a higher OBP for his career. Even coming off a crappy year by all accounts, he still put up 26 jacks (would have led Dodgers easily) and 94 RBI. If that is a “down year” I will fucking take it in a heartbeat over the rodent currently patrolling center field at Chavez Ravine.
And the Tony Clark thing doesn’t make any fucking sense. He can’t DH in this league Ned and Big Game James Loney IS our first baseman.
If the Angels won't give up Kendrick/Mathis/pitching prospect for Cabrera they are fucking insane.
Howie Kendrick is NOT that good, period. Mathis isn't at all. Their pitching propect is supposed to be pretty good. However, it's Miggy.
If the Angels pull the trigger on this deal they'll easily be the WS favorites AND win the crappy AL West by 15 games.
But, of course, they can't give up that Howie Kendrick. He hit .370 in the minors. And he walked like 3 times so his OBP was .371 or something. Oh yeah, he did hit like 2 HRs too!!!
Angels are dumb.
Mr. Falcon, you're an idiot. You're a Dodger fan. I get it. You want to your team to keep your young talent. What's wrong with the Angels wanting to keep their young talent (read: Howie Kendrick). This guy has the most potential to be a batting champion than any young player in baseball.
I'm all for giving up our unproven prospects like Brandon Wood (who several times has been called up and done NOTHING), Adenhart (supposed to be pretty good, but we are pretty deep on starting pitching now) and even Santana and Mathis. Mathis is a pretty good catcher. his offense is terrible but he calls a good game and handles the pitching staff well.
For Cabrera, i'd give up: One starting MLB pitcher (Santana or Saunders. Would hope to keep Saunders), 1 MLB position player (Mathis), and 2 high prospects (Adenhart and Wood). They are our 2best prospects. Hell i'd even throw in Dallas McPherson or Chone Figgins.
We'd then have the following:
C Napoli
P Pick your poison. pretty good staff. Escobar/Lackey Aces with J Weav, Garland, and Saunders
3b Miggy
SS Aybar, Figgins, Isturis (still wish we kept OC)
2b Howie
1b Kotchmen/Morales They really need to start Morales more often. the dude was clean up for the Cuban National team.
RF Vlad/GMJR/Rivera
CF Hunter
LF GMJR/Anderson/Rivera
DH Vlad/Rivera/Anderson/Morales
Pretty sick line up. our bull pin dominates, too.
So ya. your a Dodgers fan and hate the Angels. I'm an Angels fan and hate the Dodgers. We each follow our own team more closely than the other thus know our own prospects a little better. you want your propects/MLB young talent as do we.
Don't hate on Kendrick. He'll be batting .360 with 28 bombs in the next couple years. Count it!
B-Habe is hilarious...
Kendrick might hit for a good average (i.e. .300-.340). However, he never walks...so his OBP will never be substantially higher than his average. Therefore, his OBP will be average.
In addition, you're smoking crack if you think he'll hit 28 HRs. I'll bet my left nut that he'll never hit 20.
He be a .340 OBP guy with 12-18 HRs per year. He'll play mediocre defense...and every Angel fan will wonder why they didn't get Miggy.
