Welcome back to the Dodgers, Randy Wolf. Ned just inked the veteran lefty to a one year deal (nice, no long term commitment) for $5 million guaranteed (also nice) with another $3 million in possible incentives if he reaches 200 innings (he hasn't done that since 2003 so I'm not counting on it). Wolf is a better than .500 pitcher for his career with an ERA just over 4. He's also been pretty consistent (though not outstanding) throughout his career. Since his rookie season, he's only posted a 5+ ERA one time.
I like the move. Not much money and you get a guy you know is going to be at least average (which I think just about every team would take for the four slot in their rotation). Randy Wolf (in addition to having maybe the coolest name for an MLB pitcher) also rocks a pretty sweet goatee. With Sheets basically taking himself off the market (and maybe having more of an injury issue than first realized), this was really the only move out there for the Dodgers and they got it done at good value. Atta boy, Ned.
I realize this post is not nearly offensive enough so I'm counting on you commenters to post some unrelated racist/sexist/otherwise-disturbing comments in order to spice things up.

I think this Wolf signing was essentially a no-brainer. We have 2 slots to fill and Wolf came cheap. The price is reasonable. This isn't going to replace Lowe/Penny.
Yeah, the big fuck-up was letting Penny go. Unless the Dodgers doctors know something that I (or the Boston Red Sox) don't know, not picking up his affordable option was a huge mistake.
Why not go after Looper at this point, too? He is basically looking at getting the same one year deal as Wolf with the Brewers. He can eat innings with solid numbers (low 4 ERA). I just hate counting on someone emerging from the Estes, Vargas, Schmidt, young-guy group (especially when you factor in that someone is bound to spend some time on the DL).
Looper for $5MM would be fine. However, it looks like he's going to the Brewers.
Maybe Sheets will be ready be mid-season.
I sure hope Schmidt has gotten rid of that live badger in his shoulder
