Ned Finds Brain Under Moustache

So the Winter Meetings in Nashville, TN are finally over (BTW, who the fuck picked Nashville?). There was a lot of hype going into these meetings with big names on the trade block including Santana, Bedard, and Carbrera. However, as is usual, very few deals were actually made. The obvious exception being the FLA-DET blockbuster.

But how did everyone's least favorite Mario Brother do? I give Colletti a B+ grade for the winter meetings. He made the big Andruw Jones acquisition without committing us to a long-term deal. In addition, we may have a 3-year deal on the table for Kuroda. However, I think it's what he didn't do that was even more important than the big move he made. Obviously, and most importantly, Matt Kemp is still in a Dodger uniform despite every team in the solar system inquiring about him. Also, Aaron Rowand is NOT coming to LA to hurl his gritty-but-over-priced face into stationay objects. Neither is Scott Rolen who, while although being caucasian, still manages to be a clubhouse cancer that everyone hates. Neither are Santana or Bedard. I've got nothin' derogatory to drop about these ballers...it's just a ridiculous price that was asked.

In closing, we finally have that middle-order bat and haven't given up anyone. I would be comfortable going into 2008 w/ the current squad. However, I still hold out hope that we can pawn off Pierre to someone. Let's get that Pierre for Padilla chatter going. Imagine the sense of pride TQ...VIG members will feel by sparking this deal.

Also, feel free to comment with any new Juan Pierre death scenarios.

Pierre for Padilla? I'd rather have Pierre in a "Dave Roberts 2004 with the Red Sox" pinch running role than Padilla as a fifth starter with a 5.00+ ERA.

The Dodgers should definitely try to get Padilla.

I guess this isn't really specific to Pierre, but I thought it would be crazy if parts of the infield dirt were quicksand. You know, you take your lead, break for second and, splat! face first into a wet, gravely deathtrap. Maybe that's what was going on in SD that night last season and Martin barely avoided it.

If there was any possibility of Pierre being relegated to such a role I would take it. However, Pierre will be the starting LF (at worst) or a platoon LF (at best). They will never sit him regardless of how terrible he plays.

Padilla is also NOT a good player. However, if a starting pitcher is terrible...they WILL move him to the bullpen. They won't just continue to run him out there regardless of his terrible performance.

I would rather flush $9MM/yr down the toilet than let either of these fuckers play. Padilla gives us a better chance to do that.

I would rather get value for Pierre. However, he has negative value so we'll likely be taking negative value back (unless some idiot wants him). Maybe Chris Sabean will take him to talk depressed Giants fans off of the Golden Gate Bridge.

If I might profer up my austere opinion, I would have to say that Padilla is absolutely filthy on the mound with some people saying that his stuff (when he was younger) reminded them of a young Don Newcombe. I think he just needs a chance to show his stuff in a safe environment which Torre will provide. And with an outfield of Pierre, Jones, and Kemp, there is no way his fly ball tendencies come back to haunt him. Maybe they should trade Ethier for him.

What the FUCK is ANGUS talking about??? Is this guy is on Angel Dust, Rohyptnol, and Capri Sun?

First ANGUS says "I think [Padilla] just needs a chance to show his stuff in a safe environment which Torre will provide." I didn't realize the mound in TEX was littered in used needles and memories of childhood molestation.

Then he drops this bomb: "Maybe they should trade Ethier for him." Maybe they should, maybe they shouldn't, maybe go fuck yourself. I think, just maybe, that TEX would take that deal and then go tell all their friends that they fucked us in the ass even though they promised it would be our secret. Then we would key their bullpen car and tell everyone they had a small stadium.

Do u honestly think Pierre is more valuable than Andre Ethier? Think long, think hard, or just think period. Fuck it, your not gonna get it right, so I'll just tell you. The answer is...HE IS NOT!!! Look at the numbers...

2006 -- AVG/OBP/OPS
Pierre 292/330/717
Ethier 308/365/842

2007 -- AVG/OBP/OPS
Pierre 293/331/685
Ethier 284/350/802

Oh yeah...Pierre makes $9MM/yr while Ethier makes around $o.4MM/yr. But you would trade Ethier (cheap/good) for Padilla (expensive/not good).

Truly amazing. Your presence here is midly entertaining, but will soon become tiresome.

Yet once again you undervalue the speed aspect. Pierre is also a good character for the clubhouse, while Ethier is almost certainly a cancer as one of the young kids who spoke out against the veterans and ruined the club house. I have it on good authority (my good friend is a veternarian who lives in Fort Worth and follows the Rangers religiously) that while he has a bad rap, Padilla is actually a great guy to be around in the club house. In fact, my friend swears that had there been a few more character guys on that Texas squad last year, they would have won the AL West, and I am tempted to agree. So once again, I make the argument that Pierre should be kept in addition to the acquisition of Padilla. If we want to keep Ethier, then maybe we can trade spare parts like Delwyn Young or John Meloan instead.

Ok I get it. I'm on Punk'd, right? Where's Ashton? Where's Dax?

I totally believed this was real until Ethier was "certainly a cancer" that "ruined the clubhouse." He wasn't even one of the guys that was referred to in that situation...which never seemed to hold water anyway.

And "character guys" would've carried TEX to the AL West title. Those character guys better have been really good at being all charactery b/c TEX finished 19 games out of 1st. Yes, 19 games.

You should tell your Veterinarian friend that you need to be spade. Not nutered...SPADE. The world cannot afford to have your idiocy replicated.

Angus, even if you are right about people being clubhouse cancers, you are forgetting an important detail. Winning is the cure for this.

The off season is no time to be talking about the cohesion of a team because they are simply not around each other right now. They come back in spring training and start anew. Yeah Kent might hate Loney because he's more endowed or some shit, but that makes no real difference. As athletes, they both want to win. This team will be motivated, as professional ball players are, to win. And if this is accomplished, don't worry about Andre 'Adolf' Ethier starting shit.

It's not like these guys are a Ron Artest or Mike Tyson. They don't match up to a T.O. or Randy Moss, even. Look at what winning is doing to those guys. Haven't heard a word all year. Thus, fuck your couch.
