First, tell Manny/Scotty to suck it.
Next, Sign the following...
1. Adam Dunn (2/$16MM)
2. Orlando Hudson (2/$11MM)
3. Ben Sheets (2/$14MM)
4. Randy Wolf (1/$6MM)
5. Juan Cruz (1/$3.5MM)
That's $30MM. The payroll will still be lower than last year with no long-term risk. Done.

I'm on board. I wouldn't mind going a little higher either if necessary to get these guys (though I think the numbers are good estimates of what it will take). The only other thing to factor in are the draft picks lost by signing Type A guys but I really don't give a shit about that. The MLB draft is such a crapshoot (so few guys make the bigs and so few of them are any good) that it is way more about scouting/development than where/when you pick in the draft. I'd always give up a pick (even a high one) for a proven guy.
By the way, when is Velie going to bang McCourt's wife, forcing a divorce that ends up with Frank losing a chunk of the team, at which point Velie will give his share to Mr. Falcon in exchange for some Crocs stock, a mid-90's Honda Civic, and a beanbag chair for his unfurnished apartment so that we can finally take over the day to day operations of the club?
